Colic Assistance Plan
Once enrolled, should your horse suffer a colic serious enough to require surgery, Pfizer will pay for the costs of surgery and up to three days of aftercare, to a maximum of $5,000.
Colic can strike any horse at any time – even horses that receive the finest care money can buy. In May 2000, it almost took the life of the Dutch Warmblood gelding Grandeur, who was just days away from a bid for the 2000 U.S. Olympic dressage squad. Fortunately, a colic surgery paid for through Pfizer Animal Health’s Colic Assistance Plan saved Grandeur’s life.
Timing, luck, a good vet and a great wellness program may have made the difference between life and death for Jeannie Smith’s horse Sonny. On a hot Colorado August day, Jeannie was trail riding Sonny miles from home when he suddenly fell to the ground in a full sweat – pinning her beneath him. Fortunately, a friend had accompanied her and was able to ride to a nearby housing complex and call Jeannie’s vet for help. Sonny was rushed to the veterinarian’s clinic to undergo the colic surgery that saved his life.
