Powerful Orally-Administered Antibacterial for Horses

This powerful combination of antibacterials offers broad-spectrum control of bacterial pathogens. TUCOPRIM® (trimethoprim and sulfadiazine) Powder is excellent for a wide range of infections.

Indications

Trimethoprim/sulfadiazine is indicated in horses where potent systemic antibacterial action against sensitive organisms is required. Trimethoprim/sulfadiazine is indicated where control of bacterial infections is required during treatment of:

  • Acute strangles
  • Acute urogenital infections
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Wound infections and abscesses

Packaging

TUCOPRIM is available in 200 and 400-gram bottles and 2,000-gram pails.

Dosage/Administration

The recommended dose is 3.75 g of TUCOPRIM Powder per 110 lbs. (50 kg) of body weight per day. Each level scoop contains 15.0 grams, which is sufficient to treat 440 lbs. of body weight. Administer orally once a day in a small amount of palatable feed.

The usual course of treatment is a single, daily dose for five to seven days. Continue acute infection therapy for two to three days after clinical signs have subsided. If no improvement of acute infection is seen in three to five days, re-evaluate diagnosis.

Caution

Federal Law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Precaution

No adverse reactions of consequence have been noted after administration of product. In rare instances, horses have developed diarrhea during treatment.

Trimethoprim/sulfadiazine should not be used in horses showing marked liver parenchymal damage, blood dyscrasias or in those with a history of sulfonamide sensitivity.

Water should be readily available to horses receiving sulfonamide therapy.

Not for use in horses intended for food.

Not for human use.

Keep out of reach of children.
