PRIMUCELL® FIP

Description

PRIMUCELL® FIP contains an attenuated, temperature-sensitive strain of feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV) propagated on an established feline cell line. The vaccine is freeze-dried to preserve stability, and rehydrated for intranasal (IN) vaccination of cats as an aid in preventing feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a usually fatal disease caused by FIPV.

Approved Uses

PRIMUCELL FIP is approved for:

  • Intranasal (IN) vaccination of healthy cats 16 weeks of age or older as an aid in preventing feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).
Key Features

  • The attenuated, temperature-sensitive vaccine virus is able to replicate at the relatively cooler temperatures of the feline nasal tract, but not at systemic body temperatures. Restricting the vaccine strain to the upper respiratory tissues allows vaccinated cats to develop protective mucosal IgA and cell-mediated immune responses, without becoming hypersensitized.

  • PRIMUCELL FIP is the only commercial vaccine that aids in the prevention of FIP, a disease associated with a high incidence of mortality.

  • Customer-friendly packaging using recycled materials includes peel-off labels to make record-keeping faster and more accurate, a color-coded organizing system, and an easy-open safety band.
Packaging

25 x 1-dose vials

Dosage and Administration

  • General directions: Vaccination of healthy cats is recommended. Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine with the sterile diluent provided. Mix well. Use dropper to inoculate entire volume into nasal passages, one-half the volume into each nasal passage. Cats may sneeze or shake their heads immediately following administration.

  • Primary vaccination: Healthy cats 16 weeks of age or older should receive 2 IN doses administered 3 to 4 weeks apart.

  • Revaccination: Annual revaccination with a single dose is recommended.
Precautions

  • Store at 2°–7° C. Prolonged exposure to higher temperature and/or direct sunlight may adversely affect potency. Do not freeze. Use entire contents when first opened. Burn containers and all unused contents.

  • As with many vaccines, anaphylaxis may occur after use. Initial antidote of epinephrine is recommended and should be followed with appropriate supportive therapy.

  • This product has been shown to be efficacious in healthy animals. A protective immune response may not develop if animals are incubating an infectious disease, are malnourished or parasitized, are stressed due to shipment or environmental conditions, are otherwise immunocompromised, or if the vaccine is not administered according to label directions.

  • For use in cats only.

  • For veterinary use only.
