a single injection. CONVENIA eliminates missed doses associated with daily oral antibiotics.
- CONVENIA delivers the safety you expect from a cephalosporin.
- More than 4 million doses of CONVENIA have been administered worldwide since 2006.
Key Features
- CONVENIA is an aqueous, non-depot injection that is rapidly and completely absorbed into the bloodstream.
- CONVENIA reaches peak plasma levels quickly.
- Dogs average 6.2 hours
- Cats average 2.0 hours
- The product has a distinctively long half life: dogs average 5.5 days; cats average 6.9 days.
- CONVENIA does not undergo hepatic metabolism and the majority of a dose is excreted unchanged in urine.
- Efficacy is proven to be statistically equal to a veterinary labeled, multi day course of oral cephalosporin in treating
dogs and cats.**
Dosing Instructions
- The approved dose of CONVENIA is 3.6 mg/lb (8mg/kg) or 0.045 mL/lb of body weight given subcutaneously.
- Once reconstituted, each mL of CONVENIA contains 80mg of cefovecin sodium. One mL treats 22 lb (10 kg). One vial treats
up to 220 lb (100 kg).
- A single injection of CONVENIA effectively provides up to 14 days of treatment.
- Occasionally, a repeat dose may be needed for dogs to ensure complete clinical resolution.
- Minimum age for CONVENIA use: 4 months.
Storage and Handling Instructions
- CONVENIA must be reconstituted with 10 mL of sterile water for injection, USP. Sterile water is included with purchase and should be measured upon withdrawl to ensure an accurate 10 mL quantity.
- Before and after reconstitution, the vial should be refrigerated in its original box and protected from light
- CONVENIA should be used within 28 days after reconstitution.
- As with other cephalosporins, CONVENIA will naturally turn an amber color over time after reconstitution.
CONVENIA is not for use in dogs or cats with a history of allergic reactions to penicillins or cephalosporins. Similar to other cephalosprins, side effects for both dogs and cats include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite/anorexia and lethargy. The safety of CONVENIA has not been determined in lactating or breeding animals.
